Recent Events:

I hope you enjoyed your extended weekend!

At the AAU Junior Olympics we saw several great performances by our two throwers at the event.  Zechariah Blake took first in the 13B Shotput and Javelin as well as a third in the Discus.  This was Zechariah's best meet performance ever!  Also Kaleb Jordan in his first year of track managed a great 13th place in the 15-16B Shotput and 32nd place in the Discus earlier in the week.  Congrats to your performances boys!

Weather Outlook:

Harahan 10-Day Forecast.  If it is raining around workout time, I will be updating changes in practice schedule on twitter which will automatically load onto the right side of this page.  You can check for updates there.  Please do not call or text several hours before practice even begins.  The weather around here changes swiftly and there is no way to tell what it will look like around practice time.  Between 30-40 minutes before practice I will tweet if practice is changing locations, but I will not tweet if it remains the same.  If practice location changes, 99% of the time it will change to John Curtis High School which is located on Jefferson Highway in River Ridge.

Saturday- On Your Own
Sunday- On Your Own

Meet Information:

There is no meet for this week.

Weekly Notes:

We will not have official practice from Thursday-Sunday and will resume on Monday for the last week of the AAU season.  It is important to remember that this is a break from practice, not training and it is advised to meet up with other runners to get your training in.  Don't be passive, take your fitness into your own hands.  I've been asked to give some training ideas so here it is: Thursday- 45 minutes over the hills at Lafreniere, Friday- 20 minute tempo run with full warmup, Saturday- 45 minutes over the hills at Lafreniere.

Note to Curtis Athletes:  I've had some issues in the past few weeks with missing practice for work.  I thought it went without saying, but I will now make it a rule:  you need to only work jobs that do not require you to work at night.  You have all day to work, please use that time.  It is unacceptable to miss practice for this reason.  Please be respectful that the coaches have arranged their work schedules to be with you in the evenings, you should as well.

All shirts are now on sale for $10.  First come first served.  Sizes are limited.

The schedule now includes fall cross country tentative dates.  All are subject to change but you can get an idea of when and where we plan on racing.

Lapathon is coming up in September so remember it is time to start looking for sponsors.  Fundraising is a major part of how we are able to attend as many meets as we do, so do your part and then some!

Recent Events:

Our final races of the summer were held last week at the NOTC 2 Miler and the Relay Race we had at Jefferson on Saturday.  Devyn Keith won the 2 mile at City Park with a 9:35, pacing several local runners to seasonal bests.  Our girls team averaged 14:01 for 2 miles and we were without a couple of our runners.  The Relays were a good way to get used to racing in the mornings since we are one month away from cross country.  If you didn't feel great racing, it is time to get back in the swing of things and remember how to take care of yourself for early morning efforts!

This weekend we participated in our last regular season AAU meet of the season at Covington HS and we came away with several personal records and several first place finishes.  Despite the rain then the heat, the team finished the year strong.  I'm very proud of how every trained and raced and represented the program this summer.  Thanks again guys!

This is our last AAU meet this weekend.  Please let me know if you plan on competing.

On July 16th Curtis athletes will have the opportunity to get a physical done at school for $10.  Ask coach Preston for more info.

Recent Events:

This past week the team competed at AAU Club Championship at the Disney Wide World of Sports which saw some great performances from our team.  In what was probably the most competitive championship in meet history, the team left the meet with several medallists, including Ashley Wingerter and Dionysia Love in the 17-18 Womens 3000, Justin Unger in the 12 Boys 3000, Kaleb Jordan in the 15-16 Boys Shotput, Devyn Keith in the 17-18 Boys 1500, Ashley Wingerter in the 17-18 Women's Steeplechase, Chris Matise in the 15-16 Boys Steeplechase, and the 17-18 Boys 4x800 of Devyn Keith, Joel Smith, Kyle Soulant, and Keith Mendoza.  Also, three athletes competed in Birmingham, Alabama in the USATF Area Championship.  Trey Stewart placed second in the 17-18 Mens 3000 and third in the 1500, Zachery Barthel placed second in the 14 Boys 3000 and First in the 1500, and Dante Thomas placed 6th in the 11-12 Boys Long Jump.
