College Scholarships

We want our athletes to excel at the next level both academically and athletically so here we will compile information on competing in college.

Academic Information:
Academics is the most important part of a student athletes life.  Without the student portion, the student athlete does not exist.  Students must remember that they are not only competing against the rest of the country on the track but also in the classroom.  Scholarships can be won and lost on classroom performance alone.  As soon as you begin taking high school level courses your permanent high school record begins.  Take it seriously!  Those who work hard enough to earn academic scholarships are usually the ones most prepared for succeeding in college.  In Louisiana we have a program where the best and brightest students get free money to study at any LA university.  The program is called TOPS and information can be found here:  http://www.osfa.la.gov/schgrt6.htm.

A good website for information is located at: http://www.prepgold.com/college.html

NOTC gives out four $1000 dollar scholarships to graduated high school senior runners for their freshman year of college.  Find out more info here: www.runnotc.org/

Footlocker gives away twenty $20,000 scholarships each year for college.  More info at: www.dosomething.org/footlocker

Full and Partial Scholarship and Walk-On Standards (Boys/Girls):
A note about scholarships:  You can earn both academic and athletics scholarships for college as well as various other forms of scholarship and grant money.  You'll want to exhaust every resource before you start paying your own way through college.  In some cases when a student has several scholarships given to them they will actually be given more money than the education costs which is extra spending and saving money.  Also, occasionally a student who does not achieve the standards for athletic scholarship or walk on will be given a scholarship or will be allowed to walk on if they have good enough grades because it will boost the team grade average.  There is a lot of merit in studying and getting good grades and staying out of trouble in school!

Note to college coaches:  Feel free to send in your scholarship information!
